BROADWAY SEASON 2011-2012 – THE MUSICALS

Here you’ll find images from all the musicals, new ones and revivals, which opened on Broadway during the 2011-2012; plus the City Center Encores! series. Some became hits, others closed in a few weeks, but I believe all of them are worthy of celebration.

This season big winners at the Tonys were ONCE (Best Musical, Leading Actor – Steve Kazee, Director – John Tiffany, Book – Enda Walsh, Scenic Design – Bob Crowley, Lighting Design – Natasha Katz, Orchestrations – Martin Lowe, Sound Design – Clive Goodman), THE GERSHWINS’ PORGY AND BESS (Best Revival, Leading Actress – Audra McDonald), NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT (Best Featured Actor – Michael McGrath, Featured Actress – Judy Kaye) and NEWSIES (Best Original Score – Alan Menken & Jack Feldman, Choreography – Christopher Gattelli).

CITY CENTER ENCORES! 2012

  1. It really is such a shame that out of all these productions, not including the Encores, 8 have already closed or posted early closing notices! And yet, according to an announcement they made on the Tonys, they have experienced the highest ticket sales ever on Broadway. Such a strange season!
