CD OF THE WEEK: NO, NO, NANETTE

This Broadway revival was a surprise hit when it opened in 1971 and thanks to it we have this highly enjoyable recording. The songs by Vincent Youmans, Irving Caesar & Otto Harbach never sounded fresher and livelier and the result is one of those scores that just makes you want to dance.

Classics like “Tea for Two” and “I Want to Be Happy”, together with lesser known titles like “Too Many Rings Around Rosie” and “You Can Dance With Any Girl at All”, make this a pleasure trip into nostalgia. The cast, that includes Helen Gallagher, Jack Gilford, Patsy Kelly, Susan Watson, Bobby Van and Ruby Keeler, sound just like they were having the time of their lives and they sure give us a great time.

If you love the music of the 20s as much as I do, this is a real treat! Like they sing in one of the songs “take a little one-step”.
